The 2025 Subaru Outback is Available in Urbandale, IA

Subaru is known for producing high-quality SUVs with excellent off-road capabilities. While there are many options, we recommend checking out the new Subaru Outback. This rugged, family-friendly SUV is available in nine trims, features multiple engine options, and offers a myriad of tech to meet any driver's needs. This SUV is one of Subaru's most popular options, and if you'd like to know more about it, continue reading or shop at Ramsey Subaru of Des Moines.

What’s New?

For the new model year, Subaru has made slight changes to the Outback's design. Now, the optional XT package for the Limited gives the model a powerful turbocharged 260-hp 2.4-liter engine. Also, the Limited trim now has new amenities like a power sunroof, an 11.6-inch infotainment screen with navigation, driver attention monitoring, and a heated steering wheel.

Design

As is the case with many Subaru crossovers, the Outback sports a wagon-like body. However, unlike its brethren, the Outback's interior borrows elements from the Subaru Legacy. For instance, base models feature heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Meanwhile, higher trims feature a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and heated rear seats. One feature, though, that is unique to the Outback is its cargo space. Ames and West Des Moines drivers will find 33 cubic feet behind the second row, which is equivalent to 11 carry-on bags and up to 23 bags with the seats folded.

Performance

The new Subaru Outback continues to use a n 182-hp 2.5-liter and an optional 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter. Both engines come with all-wheel drive and are mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). According to the EPA's estimation, the base engine gets about 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, the turbocharged version has a slight dip in efficiency with an estimated 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Technology

Although the Limited received several new features, all other trims remain the same. There are still two stacked seven-inch touchscreens and the larger 11.6-inch vertically oriented monitor in higher trims. The larger monitor features bigger icons and a quicker response time, along with a rotary volume and tuning knob.

Each monitor has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, with amenities like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless device charging being optional. While a four-speaker stereo is standard, the Limited and Touring trims offer a 12-speaker system as standard.

Trims

The 2025 Subaru Outback is offered in nine trim levels.

Base: This base model offers hill descent control, LED headlights and fog lights, roof rails with integrated crossbars, and dual seven-inch center touchscreens.

Premium: Adds more comfort and convenience features such as heated and power-folding exterior mirrors, heated front seats, 11.6-inch touchscreen display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Onyx Edition: Mirroring features found on the Premium model, the Onyx Edition also adds a sunroof, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and evasive steering assistance.

Limited: Includes all Premium features and several features from the Onyx Edition while adding leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rear automatic braking.

Touring: Offering all the above features while adding onboard navigation, a front-view camera with a 180-degree viewing angle, and a digital rearview mirror.

Wilderness: An off-road-oriented model with the same features as the Premium but with a lifted suspension, a front skid plate, and an upgraded roof rack.

Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, Touring XT: These three trims offer the same standard and optional features as their non-XT counterpart but add the upgraded turbocharged engine.

Safety

If you're looking to drive to work, school, or hit the trails near Ankeny, the new Outback will keep you safe, thanks to Eyesight. With EyeSight, drivers receive forward-collision warnings, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist as standard. However, for more advanced features like blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert, shoppers need to upgrade to a higher trim.
